In the episode, Matthew talks about the process of writing a novel and how he had to think of the beginning as the last thing he wrote. He explains that he had to narrow down the infinite possibilities of what a blank page can be into certain doors he might go through in a novel. He also talks about how each time he had to think of how to set up the rules and how to even conceive of the novel in the time space he was given.
