It’s been over half a year since Amazon last released a firmware update for their modern Kindle e-readers. While the company has not issued any patch notes on their website, we do know that the 15.1.1 update includes “performance improvements, bug fixes, and other general enhancements.” This update applies to 8th generation Kindles all the way to the latest 11th generation devices, including the Kindle Oasis.
Unfortunately, this update messes up jailbroken Kindles, rendering them unusable. The 15.1.1 update is pushed out to the Kindle while it is in sleep or standby mode and will automatically install, prompting the user to reboot the Kindle to finish upgrading. Alternatively, you can also check for updates in the settings menu.
If you own a modern Kindle e-reader, make sure to install the 15.1.1 update to keep your device running smoothly and securely. Have you installed the update yet? Let us know in the comments!
